ARSENAL have surprisingly recalled Mika Biereth from Motherwell as the Scottish side bemoaned it a “major disappointment”.

The Danish forward, 20, has featured 15 times for The Steelman this season, contributing six goals and five assists.

But Arsenal have now cut his season-long loan short, with Motherwell claiming the Gunners will look to farm him out to another club.

The Scottish side’s manager, Stuart Kettlewell, said: “It’s a major, major disappointment. This was a little bit unexpected.

“They believe there’s an opportunity to send him to another club that takes him that step beyond where we are just now.”

Biereth left Fulham to join Arsenal as a youth team player in 2021.

He has played 26 games for the Gunners’ U23s, scoring 12 times and providing five assists.

But he is yet to feature for Mikel Arteta‘s side as he spent last season on loan at Dutch club RKC Waalwijk, scoring twice in 13 matches.

While Denmark U21 international Biereth is expected to be loaned out once more, he does return to the Emirates at a time when many Arsenal fans are calling for a striker.

Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, the two most obvious options to lead the line for Arteta’s men, have scored just eight Premier League goals between them this season.

Arsenal have also netted just five times in their last seven matches in all competitions.

They are winless in four matches, book-ending losses to West Ham and Fulham with a draw and defeat to Liverpool – the latter of which knocked them out of the FA Cup.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of strikers in the January window including Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke.
