Fans were stunned after finding out why Lenny Kravitz‘s famous mother is.
And his followers were quick to make comments like, ‘I never knew!’; ‘Wow, I see the resemblance now’; and, ‘His mom was an icon.’
In the new People cover story, the singer talked about his mother, who was a well-known TV star.
She was Roxie Roker who starred as Helen Willis on the hit 1970s and 1980s TV series The Jeffersons. His dad was TV producer Sly Kravitz.
‘She’s still everything to me,’ the 59-year-old Shotgun Wedding actor told the magazine.
‘I probably feel her more since she’s left the planet,’ said Kravitz, whose ex-wife is Lisa Bonet with whom he shares actress daughter Zoe Kravitz.
His mother died of breast cancer in 1995 at the age of 66. His father died in 2005 at 80 years old.

Roker first married Kravitz’s father, Sly, in 1962 before giving birth to the musician on May 26, 1964.
‘I’m very fortunate that she was on television because when I need to, I’ll turn on The Jeffersons and watch her, and it does so much for me,’ he shared.
She played Helen Willis for 11 seasons. The series was on the air from 1975 until 1985.
‘I am so grateful that God chose her to be my mother,’ said Lenny.
‘I still feel her just as much — she’s just not here physically – spiritually, I feel her deeply.’
He added, ‘She was the most exceptional human being I’ve ever experienced. She was so nonjudgmental.’
He also said she was a ‘mama’s boy.’
In his memoir he said his his mother was his ‘heart.’
The singer added, ‘Roxie Roker was a gifted actress, mother and empath who understood how to combine all three roles.’

‘She was a woman who never spoke badly about anybody, even if they deserved it,’ he shared.
‘At her funeral, late actor Brock Peters said, “If Roxie met the devil himself, she’d say to him, ‘What a lovely red suit.'”
‘The whole place burst out laughing because that was my mother. She’s going to find the positive thing that she can say or do in any situation,’ the musician shared.
He thinks of her ‘every day.’ He added, ‘I know that I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for her and all those who came before me.’
Roker studied drama at Howard University.

She was a reporter on WNEW-TV in New York in the 1970s.

She also appeared Stone in the River, Punky Brewster, Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, A Different World, Murder, She Wrote, The Love Boat, $weepstake$, 227, Beat the Clock, Fantasy Island, and ABC Afterschool Specials.
She had roles in the television miniseries Roots and in the movie Claudine.
