Aston Villa vs Chelsea preview
Eight-time FA Cup winners Chelsea make the daunting trip to Villa Park for Wednesday’s FA Cup fourth-round replay.
And they arrive in low spirits.
The Blues suffered a 4-2 home defeat to Wolves on Sunday, a result which saw them slip into the bottom half of the Premier League table.
The result came just four days after their chastening 4-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield with manager Mauricio Pochettino admitting that his position is now under threat.
No such concerns for hosts and seven-time winners of this competition Aston Villa.
Unai Emery’s side ended a three-match winless streak with a resounding 5-0 win at Sheffield United, netting four goals in the space of 18 first-half minutes.
Though Villa are favourites, they have lost each of their last FA Cup home games, whole Chelsea have progressed from eight of their last nine FA Cup replays.

Having completed their biggest away win in the Premier League since 2018 over the weekend, Aston Villa are well-placed to progress to the next round of the FA Cup.
Unai Emery’s side simply have Chelsea’s number – in recent meetings at least. They’ve won three of the last four encounters, and haven’t conceded a single goal to their opponents in any of those matches.
Villa Park is also something of a fortress this season with only Liverpool and Arsenal registering more league points on home turf.
