Viewers lashed out online, and one ranted: “Not amused that #CoronationStreet Ain’t on, when it said on my TV guide it was!
Look forward to watching soaps whilst I eat my tea!”

One user wrote: “Corries not even on this is literally my FINAL straw.”

Another added: “F*****g @itv have got 3 other channels to choose from but no they cancel #corrie cos the think everyone wants to watch a bunch of grown men kick a ball about for 90 minutes.”

And a fourth said they were switching soaps, writing: “Thanks to the football being on and no #corrie I’m giving #Eastenders a go for the first time in years.”

More on Coronation Street

Coronation Street will now air its episodes for the week on Friday at 8pm and then Sunday, February 11 at 8pm instead.

Recent sporting events, including FA Cup football matches and the Six Nations rugby, have affected soaps airing on both ITV and BBC in recent weeks.

Last night, EastEnders was rescheduled due to an FA Cup replay match between Plymouth Argyle and Leeds United. Tonight, it’s Coronation Street’s turn to be affected.

Typically, Coronation Street airs a one-hour episode at 7.30pm on Wednesdays, following Emmerdale at 7pm.

However, tonight, Emmerdale will maintain its 7pm slot, while FA Cup live coverage will replace Corrie’s usual airing time.

The match scheduled for tonight is a fourth-round replay between Aston Villa and Chelsea, with coverage expected to continue until 10.20pm.
