Robert Irwin has opened up about how much he misses his late father Steve after the young star’s high-profile split from girlfriend Rorie Buckey.

Robert, 20, graces the cover of the latest issue of The Australian Women’s Weekly, on sale Thursday.

In the issue, the conservationist revealed he thinks about his late father Steve ‘The Crocodile Hunter’ Irwin every day and often wishes he could ask him for advice.

‘There isn’t a day that goes by I don’t think, “I wonder what I’d ask Dad if he was here.” There are so many things I wish I could ask him on so many levels,’ he began.

Robert was just weeks away from his third birthday when his father was tragically killed in a freak accident off the coast of Queensland, after getting pierced in the chest by a stingray on September 4, 2006

‘When you lose a father figure at such a young age, who’s such a commanding presence of positivity and everything good in the world, all I want is for him to be here for me, to go, “What do you think about this,”‘ Robert explained.

Shortly before Steve’s death, Robert appeared with his father, mother Terri and sister Bindi on the cover of The Australian Women’s Weekly and now he becomes just the third man ever to grace the cover by himself – after Hugh Jackman and Prince Harry.

Robert told the publication he credits his mother and sister with helping him cope with losing his father at such a young age.

‘When you are three, you don’t really even know what death means. Whereas for Mum and Bindi, it was pure, unfiltered devastation and loss.
