WE all know the current cost of living crisis is pushing prices up everywhere.
But one woman has left people questioning if she’s managed to turn back time, after revealing how much she pays to live in her two-bed council house each month.
Celene, 26, regularly shares pictures and videos of her home, and the renovation process, on her social media pages.
And, in a recent video on TikTok, she broke down her monthly costs for living there, alongside her partner and four-year-old daughter, kicking off with rent.
That comes in at £370 a month, but because the council consider it a three-bed house as they class the dining room as a bedroom, she also has to pay “bedroom tax” of £65 a month – making her rent total £435 a month.
She then pays council tax, which is £108 a month, water, which is £40 a month, and gas and electric, which is around £140 a month.
The last thing she pays for is her WiFi, which comes in at £28 a month.
“And that’s a total of around £750 a month,” Celene concluded.
“So what do you think? Is it quite reasonable for the size of the property?
“I think it’s very reasonable myself.”
And people were quick to agree, taking to the comments section to reveal how her monthly costings compare with their own.
“I’m in a 2 bed council house and my rent is £700 a month, no bedroom tax,” one wrote.
“My HA house is now £910 a month,” another said.
“What! Oh wow,” Celene replied.
“Mine is due to go up in April, to £107 a week, but that’s crazy!”
“I’m in a 2 bed council house and mine is £800pm with no bedroom tax,” a third sighed.
“That’s really cheap compared to where I live,” someone else said.
As another wrote: “Rent being £370 a month is a dream, lol.
“But location is more important to me.”
“Your total is less than my rent alone! Well worth it…” someone else insisted.
As another said: “£435 a month! Where do you live, 1980?”
“Haha my gross weekly rent amount is £94.34 but where I live they are all around this apart from Housing Association houses,” Celene replied.
