Ramsdale thrown Prem transfer lifeline with Arsenal man 'preparing to move on'

NEWCASTLE have renewed their interest in Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale, according to reports.

The Gunners shot-stopper, 25, is being heavily linked with leaving the Emirates at the end of the campaign after being dislodged as No1 by David Raya.

The English keeper has featured just six times in the Premier League this season despite a stellar first two years in North London.

Now he is “assessing his options” ahead of the transfer window as he seeks more regular game time.

According to The Mail, Newcastle are one of the clubs interested in him.

Martin Dubravka, 35, has been deputising for Nick Pope, 31, who is expected to return from injury before the end of the month.

But Newcastle want to bring a younger keeper in as they look towards the future.

And manager Eddie Howe could well be best placed to convince Ramsdale to move to St James’ Park having signed him for Bournemouth in 2017.

Ramsdale also gave credit to Howe despite the coach fining him and sending him on loan to Wimbledon after he missed the bus for a Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea.

The keeper later called the incident a “penny dropping moment” in his career.

However, Newcastle’s pursuit of Ramsdale will depend on Arsenal‘s asking price.

He joined Mikel Arteta‘s men from Sheffield United for £30million in 2021, having returned to Bramall Lane from Bournemouth for £18.5m one year earlier.

If Ramsdale does leave Arsenal, the Premier League title challengers are eyeing up Columbus Crew keeper Patrick Schulte as a potential replacement.
