Ex-snooker world champ switches sports days after upsetting Ronnie O'Sullivan

JUST six days after dumping Ronnie O’Sullivan from the World Snooker Championships, Stuart Bingham has swapped sports.

The 2015 world champion has swapped snooker for pool as he looks to keep his schedule busy no matter what kind of cue is in his hand.

Bingham knocked the Rocket out of the World Championships last Wednesday in a surprise 13-10 win in the competition’s quarter-finals.

But unfortunately for the world number 25 that was as good as it got as he then crashed out himself in the next round after a 17-12 loss to Jak Jones, who would ultimately lose in the final to Kyren Wilson.

However if there is one way to take your mind off losing a game of snooker, it’s to ditch the sport completely for your next competition.

Bingham is turning his attention to the UK Pool Open in Telford instead where he will compete for a grand prize of around £160,000 after pocketing £100,000 for his efforts at the Crucible last week.

Ball-Run, 47, has explained that he is hoping to alternate between snooker and pool over the summer as he looks to maximise his prize money and fill out his schedule.

He recently told SunSport: “I love playing all year round. It’s nice to have family holidays but if there’s a tournament to play, I’ll be there.”

He added: “I’d rather be playing snooker but if I don’t qualify for an event and there is a pool event on, I will play pool.

“Pool is a bit more relaxed. But when you get on the table, you want to win, you want to pot the balls.

“It’s not like you are playing darts and then your arms aches when it comes to snooker. You are still potting balls.

“I will only play pool around the snooker. The calendar is really busy all year.

“I won’t be able to enter half of the events. It will only be off the back of not qualifying or if the dates don’t clash.”

Basildon-born Bingham has had plenty of success at the snooker table and will be hoping to recreate it when competing for pool titles.

As a snooker potter he has managed six ranking tournament wins and spent almost two years as the world number two in the sport following his World Championship success in 2015.
