THE state of our economy has been pretty bloody dreary – but finally we’ve got something that could give secret Swiftie Rishi Sunak something to smile about.
With just 23 days to go until her first date in the UK, Taylor Swift’s arrival is putting pound signs in the Prime Minister’s eyes — with her 15 shows expected to boost the country’s coffers by almost £1billion.
Fans are expected to fork out a massive £848 on average to see Taylor when she plays at venues across the country, including eight huge nights at Wembley stadium.
According to experts at Barclays bank, Swifties will splash the cash like crazy when Tay finally comes to town, forking out on things such as a hotel for the night, travel, new outfits, drinks and even pre-show parties — and we’re right behind them.
The European leg of the tour started in Paris on Friday last week and Taylor has proved she’s worth every penny we’ll spend at her spectacular shows.
As well as including a whole new set of songs taken from her record-breaking latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, Tay has created a brand new feel to the performances to give her British fans something to talk about.
Her best pal, US model and TV personality Gigi Hadid, and Gigi’s boyfriend, Hollywood actor Bradley Cooper, were spotted dancing at one of her shows in the French capital on Sunday night.
Taylor also gave a nod to her American footballer boyfriend Travis Kelce at the gig by wearing a new costume which matched the colours of his team, the Kansas City Chiefs.
Since she kicked off the shows last year, Taylor has broken a number of records — including in December when she became the first ever artist to gross more than $1billion from a single tour.
The feat eclipsed Sir Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road gigs across 2022 and 2023.
And the figures are made even more impressive by the fact Elton played five times the number of shows Taylor rolled out last year.
The power of Taylor has become so potent, I’m not surprised universities have started courses about her.
And that London’s Victoria and Albert museum has hired a Taylor Swift consultant.
Taylor has us all in a headlock, whether you love it or loathe it.
But we’re with Rishi — we just can’t get enough of her.
