Neville, 49, had said: “I couldn’t walk into a changing room thinking there’s someone I’m not speaking too.”

However, Rooney, 38, revealed there was one player during his time at Man Utd who certainly could do that, Nemanja Vidic.

Speaking about the Serbian enforcer, who won five Premier League titles at centre-back for the Red Devils, Rooney said: “I’d speak to everyone, but do you remember Vidic? He was a nightmare.

“He’d have an argument with someone and I remember he didn’t speak to Giggsy (Ryan Giggs) for six months. He didn’t speak to Patrice (Evra) for months.

“He would have an argument with someone and he just wouldn’t speak to them.”

Rooney, well-known for his temperament in his younger playing days, then recalled his own disagreement with Vidic.

“I had an argument with him one time and he was going down that same way and I pulled him and said, ‘Grow up, what’s wrong with you? We’re team-mates’.

“Giggsy didn’t bother with him to speak back then and it went on for months and he was the captain.”

He added: “I had it with the manager where we had a falling out but come match day I’d run through a brick wall.

“I wouldn’t let that bother our play.”
