Xbox drops two surprise free games – and both are incredible 9/10 must-plays

XBOX often adds new games to its library of free titles and these are usually revealed in advance twice a month.

However, two amazing RPGs just dropped for free before the official announcement of June’s lineup.

Octopath Traveler 1 & 2 are now on Game Pass, available to both Xbox and PC subscribers

Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler 2 are now available for free to Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

Both HD-2D JRPGs shadow-dropped to the service earlier today, June 6, and both are highly regarded by critics and fans.

As the titles may suggest, each game features eight intertwining stories focused on eight different characters.

The first game has an 83 rating on Metacritic and was praised for its innovations to the classic turn-based combat system found in many JRPGs.

Octopath Traveler 2 improved on the first game in many ways, bringing eight new stories and characters, new mechanics and quality-of-life updates, and is rated 85 on Metacritic.

Both games are rated 9/10 by players for their PC versions on Steam.

With gorgeous HD-2D pixel-art design and 3D diorama style, both games are must-plays for any classic JRPG fan.

The first game had been previously available on Game Pass, but was removed in March 2023, and is now making a comeback alongside the second game.
