A factory worker’s hand has become trapped in a garbage truck press, as fire and rescue crews on the scene desperately try to free him.

The 46-year-old worker was caught in the press around 8:30 a.m. Friday at a job site in Wetherill Park in south-west Sydney.

NSW fire and rescue specialists and heavy rescue technicians rushed to the site to provide assistance.

The crew consider dismantling the compaction mechanism at the vehicle’s tailgate or cutting the side of the truck to free the man.

Paramedics are also on the scene and have stabilized the worker.

The truck was empty when the man got stuck.
