An airline passenger has been hilariously mocked by sports fans after he stood out from the crowd as the only person on a flight not watching the Super Bowl.

Despite Sunday’s nail-biter ending in a last-minute victory for the Kansas City Chiefs, one man didn’t mind missing out and opted to watch the 2005 rom-com Hitch instead.

A snapshot of the darkened plane cabin went viral after it showed a plane full of passengers all glued to the game.

But instead of watching the Eagles vs. Chiefs showdown, one man chose to watch the classic comedy starring Will Smith and Kevin James.

More than 100 million Americans watched to see the Chiefs win the big game 38-35, which also saw Rihanna’s return to the podium after a long absence.

A photo of the passenger went viral after it emerged he was the only aviator on a plane who chose not to watch the Super Bowl

The photo was then posted to Twitter, where the unnamed movie fan was crucified online for his decision.

“The only guy watching Hitch on this plane should go to jail. A threat to society,” said the poster, podcast host Brett Hanfling.

The passenger was brutally mocked for standing out from the crowd, with Barstool Sports labeling him the “greatest effort in the world.”

The outlet added that the passenger only chose to be different to “send a message” to other flyers.

“He wants everyone on that plane to know that he considers himself a superior being because he could never engage in activities as low as watching the Super Bowl,” the sports site said.

However, some people stood up for the rom-com fan, with one Twitter user responding, “Let the man watch his movie!”

“He can watch anything he wants, it’s a free country,” added another.

Others felt he didn’t exactly miss Sunday’s nail-biter either, as the crowd of fencing around him made the game practically unmissable.

“To be honest, all he has to do is look at the screen next to him and he can watch Hitch and the Super Bowl at the same time,” said one supporter.

Despite clearly not grabbing the attention of one man, the Super Bowl still captured the nation’s attention as the game ended in one of the narrowest wins in recent times.

Following the Kansas City Chief’s latest win, the party is expected to erupt in the Midwest on Wednesday, as fans fill the banks of the Missouri River.

If the festivities are anything like the Chief’s last Super Bowl win in 2020, as many as 1 million people could flock to the region of just 500,000 residents.
