Barack Obama met Anthony Albanese and the US ambassador to Australia just hours after the former US president arrived in Australia for a speaking engagement.

The 44th president of the United States and his wife, Michelle Obama, landed in Sydney on a private jet on Sunday evening before being taken away in a fleet of vehicles under police escort.

President Obama was greeted by the US Ambassador to Australia and John F. Kennedy’s daughter, Caroline Kennedy, after the motorcade stopped at a hotel.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese then received Obama at Kirribilli House on a rainy Monday morning.

The pair were all smiles as they posed together for the camera by the harbor while holding umbrellas.

“Honored to welcome President @barackobama to Sydney,” Mr Albanese wrote in a post on Twitter.

The president and his wife are in Sydney for his An Evening with President Obama tour, which will take place at the Aware Super Theater on Tuesday night.

He will then fly to Melbourne for another performance on Wednesday at the John Cain Arena.

The President will speak on leadership and global challenges with former Australian Foreign Secretary Julie Bishop who will lead the event.

Tour organizer Growth Faculty said in its description of the event that attendees would hear Mr. Obama “talk about strength in leadership and explore techniques for navigating an unpredictable future.”

“In times of great challenge and change, President Obama’s leadership ushered in a stronger economy, a more equal society, a nation more secure at home and more respected around the world,” the description read.

“There is no leader better equipped to share his experience, unique strategy and wisdom about the changing face of leadership.”
