President Joe Biden got off to a rocky start in his State of the Union address on Tuesday night by opening with a clumsy joke and gaffe.
Biden called Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer the “minority leader” — when he is in the majority — after stumbling over First Lady Jill going to the Super Bowl next week.
“Maybe I need a court order,” Biden joked to Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. “She gets to go to the game next week,” Biden continued, referring to Jill.
“I have to stay home,” Biden told some with a laugh, “I have to get something done here.”
“And congratulations to Chuck Schumer,” Biden said. “Another, um, you know, another term as Minority Leader in the Senate.”

Biden then paused and corrected himself.
‘You know, I think you um… only this time you have a slightly larger majority, Mr. Leader. You’re a majority leader, about that much bigger?’
Schumer responded by raising one finger, indicating that the Democrats had increased their majority by one to 51 seats after the midterm elections.
The mistake was pounced on by former President Donald Trump, who said, “Major stumbling block on Schumer. He called him minority leader. Can’t! Every time he deviates from the script, he makes a mistake. Hopefully he gets better!
In a play-by-play of the speech on his Truth Social app, Trump added that Biden had a hard time getting the words out, even though Fake News will call him one of the greatest speeches of all time.
“I really want to see him improve. Come on Joe, you can do it!’
The rest of Biden’s speech was dominated by Republicans harassing him for claiming that the GOP wants to get rid of Medicare and Social Security.
Another Republican said “it’s your fault” as Biden condemned the increase in drug overdose deaths due to fentanyl flooding across the border.
He also declared war on the wealthiest Americans by calling for a minimum billionaire tax, attacked oil executives and again called for a ban on assault weapons.
The president began his speech by telling Republican Chairman Kevin McCarthy that he “looked forward to working with him.”
He also said COVID was “no longer” dominating American life and waited almost an hour to mention the Chinese spy balloon flying over the United States.
