Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Box Office: Gets off to a good start in China, but Part 1’s magic isn’t a repeat
Letitia Wright directed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever finally saw a day of lights in China when the movie was released in the country on Tuesday. The film received a decent response and is running in the midst of Chinese films: The Wandering Earth II and Full River Red. For those who don’t know, the Black Panther sequel released on November 11 in most parts of the world. After Chadwick Boseman’s tragic demise, Marvel had a huge responsibility to carry on the legacy in the late actor’s absence. And it was done in a subtle way, which is why the film was praised from all sides upon its release.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the first Marvel franchise movie to be released in China in the past 3 years. Due to political and censorship issues, Marvel movies and several other Hollywood releases have failed to make it to the Chinese market. Now that the gate has opened again, we expect a surge in the box office for Hollywood movies.
Speaking of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the movie opened with $3.47 million on Tuesday (according to Maoyan’s data), Variety reports. It is expected that the Ryan Coogler directory will eventually create $17.3 million during its lifetime in China. Considering there’s a gap of over 2 months from the original release, this is said to be totally decent enough.
Earned the first installment $105.06 million in China, and it helped the movie move beyond the $1 billion marking. Now repeating such numbers is now possible.
Meanwhile, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever holds a worldwide tally of $842.76 million (excluding China).
