Boatie is killed and another fights for life in hospital after two ships collide as a massive search is launched for others aboard
A missing person is desperately sought after a boat crash south of Perth left one dead and another fighting for his life in hospital.
Police were called to an area near Pinjarra Road and Soldiers Cove Terrace in Mandurah just after 10pm on Saturday to report that a boat had collided with another vessel.
One person died at the scene, while the second was taken to Royal Perth Hospital in critical condition.
On Saturday night, Detective Inspector Vic Hussey said police were searching the water for others who may have been missing.
“We are currently searching the water for at least one person who may be missing on a ship involved in a collision,” he said.
“Unfortunately, one person died as a result of this collision.”
Detective Inspector Hussey said a “considerable amount of police resources” were involved in the search and investigators are still working to determine what happened.
“We are aware that the ship may have hit a navigation mark or something like that,” he said.
More to come.
