Boy, 15, who brutally beat a 9-year-old girl on a Florida school bus has been charged with battery

A teenage boy who was filmed hitting a nine-year-old girl on the head on a school bus has been charged with battery use.

The 15-year-old can be seen in the sickening footage as another boy hit the third-grade girl on the head last Wednesday, while others recorded the brutal beating.

None of her fellow students at Coconut Palm K-8 Academy in Homestead, Florida intervened in the attack – which was filmed by another student.

Instead, her colleagues filmed the two boys’ brutal assault and began cheering as they watched during the assault.

Her mother, who identified herself only as Jenni, said she found the “amount of aggression” toward her daughter “unnecessary.”

The 15-year-old can be seen in the sickening footage as another boy hit the third-grade girl on the head last Wednesday, while others recorded the brutal beating.

Miami-Dade District Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle ruled that it was not enough for the school’s police officer to issue the boy with a civil report.

She said: ‘We believe that, based on the evidence and the circumstances, the use of a civil citation was incompatible with the violence the 15-year-old displayed against his much younger and smaller victim.

“That’s why we filed criminal charges in our juvenile courts.”

The girl’s mother told Local 10 that violence in and around the school is overwhelming administrators, with executives urging her to enroll her three children in another school.

Her mother claims her two older children have also been bullied during their brief stint at school, adding that they have done nothing to help since they joined on Jan. 9.

She said her son, 10, was also attacked on the same bus ride and said he was hit ‘out of nowhere’.

After the charges, she said, “I just hope he gets the rehab he needs. I didn’t think the amount of aggression he expressed towards my daughter was necessary.

“This needs to be sorted out immediately. Our children are at risk in schools where we rely on other people to do their jobs.

‘That cannot be justified. It doesn’t matter what was said. Our children need to learn that violence doesn’t solve anything.

“My goal is not to accuse other children. My goal is to make sure they have the safety for the kids to make sure this doesn’t keep happening.”

Miami-Dade Schools Police confirmed the perpetrators had been arrested, after responding to the incident at around 4:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities said they assessed two children for injuries and then released them into the care of their parents.

In a statement, they said: ‘The safety and well-being of our students is of the utmost importance.

“This school district is committed to promoting the values of restraint and respect and using social media responsibly. We ask parents to reinforce these principles at home.”

Her mother added, “All ages are on that bus and it is overcrowded. It is very strange, because there is a lot of yelling in the bus and the two adults in the bus – the bus (driver) and the bus assistant, are alone in the front.

‘We’ve had problems before with my son and the children on the bus, but also in the cafeteria and at discharge.

“I’ve already drawn the line, and I was also on the phone with the precinct – I spoke to someone from the precinct – and all they could advise me was to continue talking to the principal and pick up a bully report.

“You take care of our children – you are still responsible for them. You have a job for that.

“Not just to teach them, but if you see something happening in your classroom, you don’t necessarily have to intervene physically, but you call someone who can. Because when someone’s child dies, it’s at school.’
