British Independent Film Awards: ‘Aftersun’ Tops Craft winners

After sunCharlotte Wells’ feature debut starring Paul Mescal tops the craft categories at the 2022 British Independent Film Awards.

The drama, which became a breakthrough sensation at Cannes, where it was won by A24 and Mubi, won three awards including Best Cinematography for Gregory Oke, Best Editing for Blair McClendon and Best Music Accompaniment – a new honor introduced this year – for Lucy Bright.

Unveiled on Friday, two weeks before the remaining category awards are revealed at the BIFA ceremony, other craft accolades include Best Casting Award for 10-time nominee Shaheen Baig for Blue pantsbest production design for Helen Scott op To live and best original music for Matthew Herbert op The miracle. Elsewhere, Jenny Beavan won the award for Best Costume Design Mrs. Harris goes to Paristhe best effects went to David Simpson for his work Menbest makeup and hair was won by Eugene Souleiman and Scarlett O’Connell for Medusa Deluxewhile the award for best sound went to Tim Harrison, Raoul Brand and Cassandra Rutledge Flux Gourmet.

The winners in all other BIFA categories will be announced at the 25th BIFA ceremony on 4 December at Old Billingsgate in London.
