Conversely, Qatar bans the sale of alcohol in World Cup stadiums

DOHA, Qatar – World Cup organizers said on Friday they were abandoning plans to sell beer around match stadiums, a reversal after Qatar previously said beer would be sold “within the perimeter of the stadium” for certain periods before and after World Cup matches.

A statement from FIFA, football’s global governing body, said the decision came “following discussions between the host nation’s authorities and FIFA”, but gave no further details on the reasons for the decision. Beer would continue to be sold in other areas destined for World Cup fans, the statement said.
