DC Area Forecast: Goodbye through Thanksgiving Day, then rain chances return

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

8/10: Nice weather – sunny 50’s to almost 60’s – nicely timed for the holidays.

  • Today: Sunny with a mild afternoon. Highlights: Nearly 60.
  • This evening: Usually clear, seasonally cool. Lows: 30s.
  • Tomorrow: Usually to semi-sunny. Highlights: Over 50.

We are precipitation free today, not just here in the DC area, but most of the country. I couldn’t wish for a better travel day for Thanksgiving, and Thanksgiving Day itself is no slouch either. Showers are expected as we head into Friday and into the weekend, but we may not see that much rain until a potentially wet Saturday night into Sunday.

Today (Wednesday): Sitting high and dry with high pressure under control. Not too cold this morning with most spots starting in the 30’s. Wall-to-wall sunshine should take us to afternoon highs around 60 with a light northwest wind. Confidence: high

This evening: Temperatures quickly cool down to 40 degrees as we head into the evening. With mostly clear skies and light winds, we will see nighttime lows drop to around 30 degrees. Confidence: high

Tomorrow (Thanksgiving Day): High pressure holds back a storm that moves up the Gulf Coast. That keeps us mostly to partly sunny and still on the mild side, with maxima around 50 and light winds continuing. Confidence: high

Tomorrow evening: Increasing clouds as that storm tries to close in to the southwest. However, we should stay dry, with warmer highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. Confidence: medium to high

Showers are possible Friday to Friday night as low pressure moves south to us, though there is a chance much of the rain will stay south of our area. Not quite sure yet. Friday highs should be in the 50s with mostly cloudy skies, followed by Friday night lows in the 40s. Confidence: Low-Medium

The weekend forecast is still a bit shaky in terms of confidence. Most of Saturday will be partly sunny and dry, with a chance of rain between Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. Highs both days should be somewhere in the 50s to near 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium
