DC Area Forecast: Sunny today with a fresh breeze; warm up this week

Remark

A somewhat subjective assessment of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

5/10: A few points for sunny skies, but it’s cold with somewhat blustery breezes and peaks only in the 40s.

  • Today: Usually sunny, cold and windy. Highlights: Low to mid 40s.
  • This evening: Mostly clear and cold, wind decreasing. Lows: 20s to nearly 30.
  • Tomorrow: Sunny and seasonal, light wind. Highlights: Low to mid-50s.

It’s a cold end to the weekend as the cherry blossoms get a bit of a jolt, with temperatures dropping below freezing early this morning and again tonight, but hopefully not enough hours to do any damage. We’re getting warmer tomorrow and the warming trend continues throughout the week, with a possible 70 degrees by Thursday and Friday as the chance of a shower tries to return.

Today (Sunday): Brrr… a wintry feel returns today with morning temperatures starting in the 20s and afternoon highs only in the low to mid 40s. Taking into account the wind – with gusts close to 25 to 30 mph – it will feel more like 30s in the afternoon despite the bright sun. Layer up as you head to the Tidal Basin to take in the blossoms; perhaps the cold keeps large crowds away. Confidence: high

This evening: The cold continues with diminishing evening winds and overnight lows in the 20s, which is about 10 to 15 degrees below average for this time of year. Confidence: high

Tomorrow (Monday): A sunny and dry start to the work week with afternoon highs moving closer to the average, in the low to mid 50s. And with lighter winds, not much wind chill, if at all. Confidence: high

Tomorrow evening: Mostly clear and seasonal with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s. Confidence: high

A calm weather pattern continues Tuesday and Wednesday with higher temperatures. Highs should reach near 60 to the low 60s both days, with mostly sunny skies on Tuesday and increasing cloudiness on Wednesday due to an approaching low pressure area. Tuesday night’s lows remain fairly mild in the upper 30s to low 40s. Confidence: Average

Our next chance for showers probably won’t come until late Wednesday or Thursday, with peaks around or above 70 likely by Thursday and Friday.
