Do not look down! Claire Rehfuss reluctantly tries to overcome her fear of heights as part of the Roadblock in the upcoming episode of The great race.
In this preview exclusive to Us weeklythe Big Brother alum, 26, must walk a high wire on Spain’s Puente Nuevo, which rises 120 meters above a waterfall. Once the racer reaches the other side, teams must correctly identify the Andalusian flag that was held by the guide when they arrived in Ronda.
Claire chose to complete the task over her partner friend Derek Xiao, because “she has a great memory, which is part of the reason I was glad she did this one,” he explains. “But when you’re scared, your brain isn’t really working. As a result, her memory may be hampered a bit.
Prior to the season, the couple spoke exclusively to each other U.S about how they “complement each other” and got down to acknowledging both their strengths and weaknesses. “The joke I always make was that me and Claire only had one bag and I carried it,” Derek said at the time. “So I used to say to people, ‘I carried the bag, but Claire carried me.’ “I think it was my physical stamina in some of the challenges. But then Claire has one of the best memories of anyone I know. She has great attention to detail and there are so many challenges where it’s literally just attention to detail.”
As the New York native tries to walk the high wire in the clip, fellow racer Aubrey Areswho also takes on the task, tries to encourage her.
“Please don’t talk to me, I’m sorry,” Claire tells Aubrey, who says, “Talking really helped me.”
“This is terrible. This is a mistake,” Claire later tells the cameras. “Immediately I thought, ‘Derek should have done this.’ “I really don’t like heights. This has been my biggest fear since I was a kid. I think this is one of the worst things I’ve ever done.”
While viewers don’t yet know how it ends, she keeps going, saying, “I hate this, I hate this, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.”
