Her whole word! Shakira is the proud mother of two sons – and she can’t help but gush about what it means to have her little ones by her side.
The ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer became a mother for the first time in January 2013 when she and her then partner Gerard Pique welcomed their first child, son Milan. After adjusting to life with her newborn, Shakira shared how motherhood had changed her life for the better.
“When you have a baby, when you feel his love, you feel so at peace with the world. You just want to share the good news and share how happy you feel,” the “Whenever, Wherever” singer shared. Latin magazine in March 2014. “There are so many people who celebrate with me when they know I’m happy. And they hate it when they know I’m suffering because someone hurt me.”
Two years after welcoming Milan, Shakira and the retired footballer expanded their family for the second time. The ‘She Wolf’ artist gave birth to son Sasha in January 2015.
Since becoming a mother to two boys, the Colombian has been documenting their most important milestones through social media. In a March 2016 interview with PopSugar, Shakira joked that she considered herself a “serial documenter” of her children’s accomplishments.
“One of the most memorable moments with Milan was when he started recognizing items on flashcards. We started when he was 6 months old and he caught on right away,” she said at the time. “With Sasha, I’ve found that he’s really musical and has an innate aptitude for it; he even plays the drums! I have documented those moments and countless others. I am a serial documenter.”
In June 2022, Shakira and Piqué announced they were calling it quits after 12 years of dating.
“We regret to confirm that we are separating,” the couple wrote in a joint statement to Reuters at the time. “For the well-being of our children, who are our top priority, we ask that you respect their privacy.”
Two months later, the athlete was spotted with a model on the PDA Clara Chia.
After news of the couple’s split broke, the artist of “Can’t Remember to Forget You” shared how she and her boys coped with the difficult transition.
“It was not only difficult for me, but also for my children,” she explained Elle September 2022.”[It’s] incredibly difficult. … I have tried to hide the situation from my children. I try to do it and protect them because that’s my main mission in life. But then they hear things at school from their friends or come across unpleasant, unpleasant news online, and it just hits them, you know?
