It turns out to be low collections for Kabzaa in the Hindi version alone 0.50 crore* more came in. On Friday, the film was collected 0.40 crore*. The film has actually seen a good release for itself, especially in the interiors where releases in the South traditionally do well. The numbers that come in are therefore not in sync with the reach that the film has.
So far the Upendra starrer has collected 0.90 crore* which is much less than what the Hindi version is of Kantara collected on the first day [1.27 crores]. That movie had arrived with hardly any promotion at all, but somehow caught the audience’s attention and eventually did business with it 85 million. That movie also came from the Kannada industry and even though Kabzaa is a much bigger movie with a promotion that started months in advance, surprisingly the collections have not come in.
The film does have fairly similar elements that were made KGF, especially Chapter 1, reaching out to the audience. Even I had similar expectations for Kabzaa and would have expected it to do at least half of its job and eventually end 20 million reach. Surprisingly, however, the audience has just failed to catch on for the film in the Hindi version (although it does well enough in the original Kannada version). One now waits to see what Sunday turns out, as that would pretty much decide whether the Hindi version would be more than just a week-long show.
*estimates. Waiting for the final numbers
