Man stabs passengers on German train; 2 reported deaths

BERLIN — A man stabbed and wounded several people on a train in northern Germany on Wednesday before police arrested him. Two of the victims died, the German news agency dpa reported.

German federal police said the man used a knife to attack several passengers shortly before the regional train from Kiel to Hamburg arrived at Brokstedt station. An initial investigation found seven people were injured, police said.

Dpa later quoted Schleswig-Holstein state interior minister Sabine Suetterlin-Waack as saying two people were killed and five injured in the attack, which took place around 3pm local time.

The train station in Brokstedt was closed for several hours, the news agency said.

Police did not provide information on the identity of the suspect and said his possible motives are under investigation.

The police stations involved were not immediately accessible on Wednesday.
