The genesis of the story came from a personal loss and the fears that came with it, which made me realize that love is indeed eternal and spurred me to write a story about it.
He added: “The selection of ‘Barzakh’ at the Series Mania is such a momentous yet humbling occasion for all of us, not only because it is a show that is so close to my heart, but also because the selection is so is a strong confirmation of our belief in this story that is now finding its way among the best in the world”.
Held annually in Lille, the Series Mania festival has played an important role in recognizing and curating the best series from around the world since its inception in 2010. The festival brings together the best screenwriters, directors and artists together under one roof.
Shot in Pakistan’s picturesque Hunza Valley, ‘Barzakh’ blends magical realism and supernatural fantasy within a family reunion setting, dealing with themes of love, loss and reconciliation.
