Pathaan Box Office: Aditya Chopra’s Film Is Over 100 Crores Ahead Of YRF’s First Film In Their Spy Universe, Ek Tha Tiger
It had been more than ten years since Ek Tha Tiger hit theaters. At that time, long before Pathaan, no espionage universe was yet in the making. There wasn’t even an announcement that Tiger would be a franchise in the making. It was just meant to be a cool spy action thriller with a love story in it and Kabir Khan deftly performed the lead role of Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. The movie got a huge opening on Eid and then moved on 50 million mark in the first three days; a very good number in 2012.
Circa 2023 and something much bigger has come out of the idea born over a decade ago. Tiger Zinda Hai happened, this was followed by War and now with Pathaan the spy universe is indeed starting to take shape. The kind of jump in numbers seen at the box office is much bigger and better than one could have imagined. While Ek Tha Tiger had scored 60.42 crores in the first three days, Pathaan more than surpassed that number 100 croresby which 166.75 crores enter.
Here we look at the biggest weekends (or first three days) of YRF’s biggest openers:
Pathane – 166.75 crores
Tiger Zinda Hai – 114.93 crores
Duom: 3 – 107.61 crores
sultan – 105.53 crores
Villains of Hindostan – 101.75 crores
War – 100.15 crores
Ek Tha Tiger – 60.42 crores
Fan – 52.35 crores
Jab Tak Hai Jaan – 49.22 crores
gunday – 43.41 crores
What Siddharth Anand directed Pathaan has done to give a very solid platform to the spy universe envisaged by Aditya Chopra. To think about it, even Pathaan only contained Pathaan and Tiger, and Kabir has yet to make an entry here. With Tiger 3 coming up, one just hopes Hrithik Roshan makes an appearance as well. Once that happens, it would provide a rock solid platform for the universe to take on gargantuan proportions in years to come.
