Ponniyin Selvan 2: Despite Part 1 making 400 Crores+ at the global box office, Mani Ratnam’s film is struggling to get Telugu distributors?

The second installment of Mani Ratnam’s historical drama franchise, Ponniyin Selvan 2, will hit theaters on April 28, 2023. Since the first film was a big hit in most corners, there were some regions where the film underperformed as per expectations. Despite having a huge star cast, the film failed to make a good collection at the box office collections in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Adding to the story, a new report says the highly anticipated PS 2 is struggling to get Telugu distributors. The original Tamil version of the first film did decently in Tamil Nadu but did not perform well in the Hindi region or Telugu speaking states. According to a report by News 18, Ponniyin Selvan’s first failure in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana was a disappointment. While the movie is over 400 crores at the global box office, Mani Ratnam’s sequel, which is struggling to get Telugu distributors, comes as a shock. The report adds that Telegu distributors are not willing to buy the rights of Ponniyin Selvan 2.

Moreover, the Telugu-speaking public rejected Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 on television because it produced disastrous results when it aired on Telugu channel Gemini TV, the report adds. With a score of 2.17*, the team took a step back for the television premiere. However, the makers of the second episode have every confidence in that Poniyin Selvan 2 will be a game changer for moviegoers and leave a memorable note with viewers around the world.

At the same time, Lyca Productions has announced that the first single of Ponniyin Selvan 2 will star Trisha, coming out soon. During the announcement on Twitter, a BTS member teased that the song is about Kundhavai and the process behind the character’s makeover.
