A swimmer has died on a popular beach in Cronulla while his two male swimming partners were rushed to hospital, one in critical condition.
The three men got into trouble on Shelley Park Beach around 1:50 p.m. on Saturday.
NSW police say two men were lying unconscious in the water when lifeguards arrived on jet skis and were taken to nearby Cronulla beach.
The other man managed to get himself back ashore.
One man, whose age is currently unknown, has died, while the other two men have been taken to hospital.

The three men ran into trouble on Shelley Beach around 1:50 p.m. on Saturday, two of which had to be jet skied ashore.
A man in his 40s was underwater for three minutes and was unconscious when lifeguards arrived.
He was taken by ambulance to St George’s Hospital in critical condition.
The third man, in his 20s, is conscious and was taken to St George Hospital for treatment.
It is clear that a rescuer also required medical treatment after suffering from exhaustion.
Sutherland Shire Police Area Command officers are investigating and will prepare a report for the coroner.
