Expose everything. Theo James, Dakota Johnson and more actors have opened up about their nude scenes — and cut down on the experience of going full-frontal.
The native of England raised eyebrows with his performance as Cameron on Season 2 of The White Lotus. Returning for a second time in October 2022, the popular HBO series focuses on the guests and employees of a fictional resort.
In a memorable scene from the second season, Harper (Aubrey Plaza) accidentally glanced at Cameron (James) as he undressed. At the time the different actor discussed the work it took to bring the NSFW moment to life.
“The truth was you go into these things and have a conversation with the director and the producers, and they say, ‘Okay, we’re going to use a prosthetic for this, we’re going to use something.'” he explained during a performance in December 2022 on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. “It’s a pee-pee prosthesis.”
For the golden boy rigid, it was important that the prosthesis not be too “distracting” for the public. “He must be [a] regular Joe, because the scene is not about peeing, but about power games in sex [and] whether he did it on purpose or whether it was an accident,” he added.
James joked about his reaction after seeing the scene for the first time, saying, “I mean, it’s bigger than that.” It’s like she stole it from a donkey in the field. The thing is gigantic.”
Johnson, for her part, has also been outspoken about playing Anastasia in the movie version of EL James‘ 50 shades of grey trilogy. During its release, the films made headlines for their explicit sex scenes.
“It’s stressful enough being tied naked to a bed in a scene,” the actress revealed Glamor in 2015 about filming the sex scenes. ‘But then they call cut and you’re still tied to the bed naked. Jamie [Dornan] would be the first to throw a blanket over me.”
According to the BAFTA nominee, the worst part was her parents’ idea, Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, seeing her naked on screen. “My mother came up for the day [during filming]. She’s proud of me,” Dakota explained. “But I don’t want my family to see it [the movie]because it’s inappropriate. Or the friends of my brothers, who I grew up with. I think they would say, “Blegh.” There’s also a part of me that says, I don’t want anyone to see this movie. Just kidding.”
The social network star later admitted that she was tired of filming racy sex scenes for the franchise, tellingly Interview magazine in 2016: “Well, we don’t have real sex. But I’ve been simulating sex for seven straight hours now, and I’m over it.”
