Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Box Office Review: Pre-Release Buzz & Impression
It will not be wrong to say that Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is the most anticipated Bollywood rom-com of recent times. In a crowd of larger-than-life movies and mass entertainers, a fun rom-com was missing from the scene, and TJMM perfectly filled that vacuum. The new pairing of Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor looked promising and got instant approval from the viewers. Be it a trailer, songs or promotions, the movie ticket ticks all the boxes, thus building a good hype on the ground around it.
Ranbir is already an established crowd pleaser. While his Brahmastra got off to a fantastic start, even a poorly promoted film, Shamshera took a double-digit opening. So it was always on the cards that TJMM would open well. With many things already working in its favour, the film looked nothing short of a commercial winner that Bollywood eagerly awaited after the failure of Shehzada and Selfiee.
So during the pre-release phase, TJMM looked like a potential blockbuster!
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Box Office Review: First Start, Positives and Negatives
Dhulandi (playing Holi) was celebrated in Maharashtra yesterday, but it is celebrated today in all other Indian states. Due to the same reason, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar witnessed a slow start in the morning shows. During Holi, after-noon shows perform better, and the same is expected for this rom-com. With a good pre-release buzz, the film saw encouraging numbers coming in from pre-bookings, and a healthy opening number is expected by the end of the day. So TJMM has set a stage for itself.
Speaking of positives, TJMM has received mostly positive reception from the critics, and to some extent it will help it gain some traction. As of yesterday, social media has been full of positivity for the film, which has boosted the response to pre-bookings. Speaking of the competition, TJMM has an open field to act as the next big movie is Ajay Devgn’s Bholaa, which is due out on March 30th. Even the pre-existing force like Pathaan will slow down now, or even if it continues to draw a crowd, it won’t give this rom-com a huge dent.
Coming to the negatives, the word of mouth has been mixed so far and doesn’t match the positivity seen on social media since last night. Personally, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is a below average affair as it looks glistening but doesn’t offer the entertainment we’ve gotten in previous Luv Ranjan movies. The content is strictly limited for the multiplex audience and there is no chance that this movie will survive in the mass centers. So TJMM won’t have long legs at the box office and after the first weekend the hoopla will eventually settle down. Couples and college students might enjoy it, but other than that, this movie will get little attention from other viewers.

All in all, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is not a grand comeback that Bollywood has been waiting for after Pathaan! It will be a good run initially, but will eventually lose its charm at the counters. Compared to Selfiee and Shehzada, TJMM is a breath of fresh air for Bollywood as it will earn more than their combined collection. However, given the pre-release buzz, high expectations and the scale of the film, the lead actor of Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor would be an underperformer as he is expected to be between 70-85 crores at the Indian box office.
