He shared a video demonstrating the simple trick – and claims any “cheap” bottle of the spirit will work just as well.

He pours or sprays a little of the £7.99-a-bottle vodka over the windscreen, preferably the night before, and puts the rest in the screenwash refill.

Jack from Arbroath, Angus, says it works because alcohol does not freeze — and is better than shop-bought de-icers.

He added: “I have been doing it since I have been driving. I thought it was a more well-known trick.

“I was outside doing it the day before I put the original video up, and my neighbour asked me what I was doing.

“Vodka is what I have always used.

“It is very strong so I would have thought it will be the best type of alcohol to use.”

In another video posted to TikTok by Nicole Jaques, the savvy driver shared another super-fast de-icing method for teetotallers without any booze to hand.

“All you need to do is fill a bag with warm water when the weather‘s caused your car to ice over and then rub it over your windshield and in seconds you’ll be ready to go,

“Even better, you’ll keep your hands nice and toasty while you’re doing it.”

But, Nicole also issued an urgent warning to all motorists trying to tackle a frosty windscreen.

“Never pour hot or warm water directly into your windshield as it’ll crack.

“But the warm baggie trick works in 30 seconds where you can wait quite a while for the defroster in the car.”
