The branch has been serving customers in the Scottish city for more than two decades.

A spokesperson told The Courier: “We are currently talking to our colleagues in our Dundee Overgate Argos store.

“We have made the difficult decision to close it. We are supporting them in every way we can.

“This includes exploring opportunities for colleagues to redeploy within Argos and Sainsbury’s.”

Argos decided not to renew the store’s lease last month, manager Malcolm Angus said.

Signs have now been put up inside the shop confirming that its last day of trading will be Saturday, March 2.

From then on, locals craving their Argos fix should go to the outlet inside the Broughty Ferry Sainsbury’s instead.

Last year Argos announced plans to close 100 stores within 12 months.

Sainsbury’s, which owns the chain, said the move is part of plans to expand Argos’ presence in supermarkets.

Argos has already shut more than 45 branches in the last 12 months and opened over 25 branches inside Sainsbury’s stores.

By March, Sainsbury’s expects to have 160 standalone stores and between 430 and 460 Argos counters inside its supermarkets.
