Melanie’s casting was first revealed in October, and the BBC released first-look pictures of her in character shortly after.

Now, co-star Kirsty has taken to her Instagram to share pictures of the pair on set.

In the two images, the new cast mates can be seen beaming in their hospital outfits.

The 49-year-old Casualty star captioned the post: “Can’t wait for everyone to fall in love with @melaniehillbilly #Casualty.”

Fans were sent into a meltdown and quickly took to her comments section to express their excitement at the new cast member.

One user penned: “Brilliant addition to the team. I used to watch Casualty growing up, and now I’m a nurse, although not in A&E.”

Another chimed in: “Aww, Fab Addition to the cast.”

They later added another comment saying: “Loved Melanie In Bread & Coronation Street. I’m sure we will all love her… as long as Mel is not replacing Faith!”

A third wrote: “Been in so many great things. Looking forward to seeing her, love Casualty.” (sic)

Another stated: “I used to adore her in Waterloo Road. Really looking forward to seeing her on-screen with the Casualty gang.”

While a fifth referenced her famous role in the Carla Lane sitcom Bread, saying: “Brilliant, another good actor, our Avaline!!! X”

The 61-year-old star played the role of Cathy Matthews on Coronation Street for seven years.

She will now take on the role of Clinical Nurse Manager Siobhan, who is described as a “no-nonsense team leader who looks set to ruffle a few feathers.”

After the casting announcement, Melanie said: “I am delighted to be joining the cast of Casualty, and I can’t wait for fans to meet Siobhan.

“She’s a supremely competent manager who is firm but fair and expects nothing but the best from her nursing team.

“However, get on the wrong side of her, and she’ll make mincemeat out of you! I’m sure she’s going to ruffle a few feathers in the Emergency Department.”

The images Kirsty posted have also indicated that she will soon be back on the wards playing Advanced Clinical Practitioner Faith Cadogan.

Kirsty has been seen on the show, but her character hasn’t been working in the ED as she struggles with her drug addiction.

But the fact that she is in uniform might imply that she is clean off drugs now and will be back in the mix of the drama.

Next week, viewers can expect to see Faith return to the ED, nervous for her first shift, only to find herself suffering a horrifying attack, leaving her bloody and bruised, while Steve finds himself in a grave mistake.

Casualty airs on BBC One on Saturday nights, with previous episodes available on BBC iPlayer.
