New Predator film titled Badlands in the works following success of prequel Prey… almost 40 YEARS after Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers’ original sci-fi thriller
20th Century Studios is launching another installment in the Predator franchise.
Director Dan Trachtenberg has been tapped to helm a follow-up to his 2022 film Prey, a prequel to 1987’s Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and the late Carl Weathers.
Trachtenberg’s new Predator movie will be called Badlands, and will be set ‘sometime in the future,’ according to a Friday report by The Hollywood Reporter.
While plot details are vague, the outlet mentioned that the upcoming thriller, like Prey, will feature a female lead.
The screenplay for Badlands was penned by Trachtenberg and his Prey writing partner Patrick Aison.

The Hollywood Reporter also said that 20th Century Studios is orchestrating a variety of Predator ‘projects’, with Trachtenberg taking the lead.
Trachtenberg achieved critical and commercial success with the direct-to-Hulu release of Prey, earning it the title of the most-watched Hulu premiere.
The film took place in the year 1719, revolving around a young Comanche woman forced to battle for her survival against the extraterrestrial hunters known as ‘predators’.
‘It was exciting to tell a story that’s set 300 years in the past, but it was challenging to develop a creature that would feel at once older, but also far more advanced,’ Trachtenberg told Polygon in 2021.
‘I wanted it to feel much more like an alien creature than ever before, much more feral, ferocious, primal, and be less armored. So then all the technological advances needed to be through its arsenal, through its weaponry.’
The filmmaker first garnered Hollywood’s notice in 2016 with 10 Cloverfield Lane, an intense installment in the Cloverfield movie series produced by J.J. Abrams.
Badlands will mark the sixth installment of the popular sci-fi franchise that kicked off with John McTiernan directing Schwarzenegger, Weathers and Jesse Ventura as commandos being stalked in a jungle by a deadly extraterrestrial hunter.
Despite receiving mixed reviews, the original movie was a fan favorite, grossing $98.3 million worldwide on a budget of $15 million to $18 million.
