SHOPPERS are devastated after a beloved discount store announced its closure leaving them to liken their home to a “ghost town”.

The retailer has more then 500 branches and is has been a staple among the community for many years.

Savers in Haverfordwest, Wales, revealed the sad news yesterday and locals have flocked to social media to share their sadness.

One person wrote: “Such a shame for the town,” while another agreed saying: “What a shame.”

A third added: “It was like a ghost town about 2 yrs ago when we stopped on holiday. Can’t imagine what it’s like now.”

“Was in savers yesterday, another nice shop hits the dust “, said a fourth.

A spokesperson for the retail giant said that it was hoped that the staff from the Haverfordwest store would be able to take up positions at other local Savers outlets.

“We can confirm that our Savers Haverfordwest store will be closing in the summer month,” said the spokesperson.

“We are looking to offer roles to staff at local stores where possible.

“Our customers can also shop our great deals online at Savers.co.uk, locally at Tenby, or in any of our 500 shops nationwide.”

It comes as a big discount department store chain with 200 stores is set to close yet another branch.

The Original Factory Shop will pull down the shutters on its Milford store in Surrey following several closures last year.

The discounter sells a range of bargain items from homeware to stationery.

It has been running since 1969 and has around 190 stores across the UK.

Now its been revealed The Original Factory Shop will close its Charles Street store after 13 years in another blow to the high street.

The branch first opened its doors in Milford Haven in June 2010 – in the building that was originally occupied by Woolworths.
